I'm not sure how many of you brave the Black Friday crowds. Usually, it's been a tradition at my in-laws that after dinner we peruse the fliers and while they all just look and 'ooh and aw' over the deals to be had - I make my game plan for the next day.
This year, however, I sort of got a jump on it.
There is no disposable income this year, no picking up something that I think the kids might like. At least as far as my son is concerned. We had the 'if you ask for expensive gifts you get far fewer things to open' discussion yesterday. Again.
My daughter, on the other hand, has a Christmas list with 63 things on it. Some she'll get for sure (this book, for instance) other things will never cross our doorstep. Strangely enough, she put down a few random things that have been in the back of my mind for her that I thought she'd enjoy - a pink bean bag chair? a small sewing machine? A stage for her puppet shows?
I've always thought that my son is more like me, that I understand where he's coming from more than I do my daughter. I think I might be wrong.

I used to get up and shop with my mother and sister on Black Friday. Then, I came to my senses. Since we spend much of Thanksgiving on the road, the day after is very slow for us, at least in the morning. We sleep in, the girls start reading their Christmas books, and we don't plan a whole lot.
Pete and I were just discussing what to get the girls for Christmas. Neither one has asked for much, so we don't have mega lists to sort through. We always give them books, so that part is easy. It's the one special toy that we're having problems with.
Aren't you sounding sensible.
My girl has no real idea what she wants for Christmas. She sat there made out her list and it went sort of like this.

For my mom to be special. I thought that was rather cute and I thanked her, and Adam laughed at her.
Connor this year he's all about the zero gravity micro cars and the pokemon. ;)
